Sunday Conversation: Wendy & Lisa - Los Angeles Times

You guys have worked together for years. How do you not kill each other?

Lisa: We've slaughtered each other a few times. Very much like "Life of Brian." We're limbless and legless. Come on, sucker, I'll get you!

Wendy: No, that's "The Holy Grail." "I'll bite your legs off!" You know there is no secret. We batter the hell out of each other. But we love each other more than we batter.

Sunday Conversation: Wendy & Lisa - Los Angeles Times

If you talk music with me, then you know how much I LOVE these gals. Came across this Los Angeles Times interview with them about the "Heroes" soundtrack coming out.

I quoted this part of the conversation 'cause I loved how Wendy casually mentions that they love each other.

Social Security Close Call

This is from Crooks and Liars regarding Something Jack Cafferty said:

Jack Cafferty is the only person I’ve seen on TV so far to make this incredibly important point: If George Bush and John McCain had their way with privatizing Social Security, millions of seniors would be totally screwed right now.

"You may remember just four years ago President Bush made a big push to partially privatize Social Security… You know so we could individually invest our future with the great minds on Wall Street. It failed back then, but that concept could still become a reality. See John McCain also supports supplementing Social Security with private investment accounts. His opponent Barack Obama does not.”

Crooks and Liars » Cafferty Mocks McCain: Is privatizing Social Security really a good idea?

Wow! So many more people would have been screwed with this.

We need to clean house.

Don LaFontaine

Having been a Speech major way back when in college, I am fascinated with the human voice, all languages, accents, puns, idioms, irony, sarcasm, inconsistency, redundancy, redundancy (!), spelling, grammar (or lack thereof), excessive use of commas (Frank), the (de-) evolution of language via poor usage.... I could go on and on. .

I suppose this all came about due to my sixth grade teacher, Ms. Canavaciol. She cast me in a class play as the narrator because of my deep voice (yes, even then). That "set the stage", so to speak. Later on, in perhaps 7th or 8th grade, I discovered those old health films shown in school, with that "1950s narrator voice". I think I must have been the only one paying attention during those films.

I have always found narrator voices hugely interesting. Don Pardo (NBC, SNL, among many others), Don LaFontaine (see below), James Sloyan (Lexus), Paul Winfield (City Confidential) are some of my favorites.

I was saddened to hear that Don LaFontaine passed away this weekend.

Wow. Good for her. I remember when she worked at Billboard and sang at the Billboard Dance Music Summit. I helped her do a demo for a song once.

A gold-medal performance to savor - Olympics - Yahoo! Sports

The greatest duo in beach volleyball history did what no other team had done before, seizing their second straight gold medal despite mush-pocked sand and a pelting rain that drove a sellout crowd to retreat under ponchos and umbrellas. Walsh ended a pair of 21-18 set victories with a crushing spike between China’s Tian Jia and Wang Jie, extending Walsh’s and May-Treanor’s stunning streak of consecutive wins to 108 matches and counting.

Sports Misty May-Treanor (right) of the US celebrates gold with her teammate Kerri Walsh during the podium ceremony after winning against China's Tian Jia and Wang Jie in their women's final beach volleyball match at Beijing's Chaoyang Park Beach Volleyball Ground, on August 21, during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. The US team won 2-0.

Way to go! I love these girls!

I have one more weekend of beach volleyball left before I call it quits for this year. I'd rather play indoor.
