I was over at XO's Middle Eight blog reading about Donna Summer's "Stamp Your Feet", and I came across a top 10 list of xolondon's favorite Donna Summer songs. Though it would be easy for me to ramble off a list of great Donna Summer songs, iI realized that it was hard for me to categorize which ones were my all-time favorites. She really has an amazing catalog of music.
The first song that did come to mind was "MacArthur Park". Though I believe most people are familiar with the song, the "lite 'n easy" radio-listening population out there probably doesn't know that "MacArthur Park" is part of a wonderful disco suite epic ("it's ah epic!") which includes the classic "Heaven Knows".
In this full-length version of the song, there is B section (omitted from the radio edit) that switches into a major key and sings, "There will be another songs for me..."
This section is one of the most beautiful moments in pop music.
Take a listen at 3:47 in this video below:
I'm not ashamed to say that Ein Oso and I have been literally moved to tears so many times by this section of the song. In a funny way, this song and our appreciation of its beauty is a sign for us that we were meant to be together.
Love love love love love it.
This one is in my top 2 Donna Summer songs.
Imagine hearing this version on the dance floor today at a club? Heaven knows, I would be in heaven.
I have heard this version only once or twice ever. And it wasn't included in the greatest hits album I recently bought, which was a 2 cd set that did include the extended version of "I Feel Love."

Love this post! I think I can imagine you two on roller skates holding hands in a rollerdisco. Maybe clutching daffodils in your free hand(s).
Where did I come up with that?!

Glad you liked it. I do have to say, of the both of us, Ein Oso was the one who frequented the rollerdisco.
I'm the one who likes daffodils!
Not sure where you came up with that. You were probably listening to some Goldfrapp song.

Yes, in the early 80s, I did frequent United SKATES of America. My macho father just LOVED watching me roller-figure skating to the latest Donna song. Luckily I've toned that down a bit, and I now only pirouette for ElMarveloso (in private).
