RUDOLF DE CRIGNIS
The art world lost a quiet light when de Crignis died, in December, 2006. His first posthumous solo show of paintings, made between 1992 and 2006, traces de Crignis’s development into a supreme colorist. What appear to be simple monochrome canvases are actually built up from dozens of layers of translucent pigment. Displayed in natural light, the works are exercises in slow looking, unfolding as one views them from different vantage points (as de Crignis prescribed). If art is about opening up possibilities, about asking questions rather than providing answers, paintings like these, which throw into flux such basic designations as “blue,” “gray,” and “green,” are beacons. Through June 14. (Blum, 526 W. 29th St. 212-244-6055.)
As David Letterman says, it's not Christmas without Darlene Love. Since he's not making new shows at this time due to the strike, it's unlikely we'll see Darlene this year. Baby, please come home!! Here's a clip of three of her past Letterman performances. I LOVE this woman.

For those of you who don't know what this is about, let me explain...
Once upon a time, there was a young lad who was sending way too many Christmas cards every year. He thought that there must be a better way to wish all of his friends a happy holiday without causing nerve damage to his hand. One day, while drinking Diet Dr. Pepper, he came up with the idea to make a tiny holiday video, post it on the internet, and send the link to his friends so they can read his holiday message and watch the video. It was a hit!
As the years went on, the productions became more elaborate. He found himself spending even more time than he did when he wrote out holiday cards! He still enjoyed putting the video together, but felt bad that he wasn't spending time with his friends since he was so preoccupied with this holiday tradition. He hoped that all of his friends understood. All of his friends forgave him and everyone was happy forever and ever. So there.
As always, I wish you and yours a happy holiday season!
I've never really seen the creative process broken down into parts before, but I guess I kinda though about it. Here are the stages Brooks talks about:
Vision
Hope
Diving In
Excitement
Suspicion
Clarity
Obsession
Resolution
Wow, do I get her! She describes the whole process so well. It makes me want to do...something!
If you're a creative person, definitely read the column. You'll feel connected.
